KnoCommerce is a serious research platform with no free plan and a deliberately narrow entry tier. toldby is a free plan with no survey or question limits and one paid plan at $6. It is also a much smaller product than theirs, and this page says exactly where.
The comparison that matters to a store just starting to ask questions.

Kno is not an expensive version of toldby. It is a different class of product, and if you need that class, price is the wrong axis.
If you run research programmes and need audiences, branching or benchmarks, buy Kno. toldby would waste your time, and $6 is not a reason to pick a tool that cannot do the job.
One decision, taken early: do the narrow thing completely and put none of it behind a tier.
Nothing about the survey is gated. No limit on surveys, no limit on questions, both survey surfaces, every template, every question type — on the free plan. There is exactly one paid feature set: the full response history and the AI summaries of open text. Free shows you the last 24 hours across analytics, the feed and the export, and that is the only wall you can hit.
Collection is never metered. Not on free, not on Pro, not ever. Your bill cannot move because your store had a good month, because there is no quantity in the pricing at all.
It is finished rather than minimal. The parts that exist are not trial versions of themselves: one question on screen at a time with each answer submitted as it is given, every response attached to the order and customer, a filterable feed, breakdowns per option, CSV export, and on Pro a written summary of the open text with verbatim quotes checked against the stored answer. What it is not is a research platform, and this page has been specific about that.
The questions toldby ships are all in the template library — including NPS and NPS with a written reason, neither of which costs extra. Pricing is one page.
Not as of 19 September 2026. Their App Store listing reads "From $19/month" and the cheapest tier shown is Starter at $19, with a 7-day free trial on it. Older comparison articles still describe a Kno free plan, so it is worth opening the listing yourself rather than trusting a blog post — including this one.
There is no limit on either. Surveys and questions are not gated on any plan, so a free store can run several surveys with as many questions as it wants. The free plan's only restriction is how far back it can look — the last 24 hours across analytics, the response feed and CSV export.
Not on toldby: two NPS templates ship and both are on the free plan. On Kno's listing, every tier from Starter to Pro carries the line "NPS add-on (additional fees apply)", so it sits outside the monthly price on all three (checked 19 September 2026). Worth pricing properly if NPS is the reason you are shopping.
A good deal. Their listing advertises audience targeting with customer-segment filters, benchmarking against other stores, attribution reporting and models, logic flows, survey actions, twelve question types, survey links, a REST API and integrations. toldby has three question types, no targeting, no benchmarks, no API and no integrations. If any of that is load-bearing for you, Kno is the better tool.
toldby, by a wide margin, and that is most of its argument. Kno's tiers on their listing are $19, $119 and $299 a month; toldby is free or $6. But the $19 tier is narrow by design — one survey, three questions — so the honest comparison for most stores is toldby's $6 against Kno's $119, where the extra buys segmentation and benchmarking rather than more surveys.
Or start from the question rather than the app: the template library lists what toldby can ask, and pricing is one page because there is only one paid plan.
